Industry News

A little bit of a downhill flashback today in the form of the August 1981 issue of Thrasher Magazine. The first year for Thrasher was 1981 and the august issue covered the Laguna Seca: Maximum Downhill competition. The cover featured a photo of downhill legends Roger Hickey and Steve Hutson charging the course in Monterey California. You can check out the issue in the archives of the Thrasher site. A quick look through gives a great window into the downhill skateboarding days of the past.

Our friend, Marc McCrudden sent us over the premiere poster that Erik Lundberg created for the upcoming Drop Premiere in Sweden. If your Swedish, then you understand the sign above, and they hope to see you there. If you're not, then you probably don't have the 75 Kronor to pay the admission anyhow.

Well he's not the most celebrated skater in the world, that's Adam Colton according to LongTreks press releases earlier this year, but according to the recent Dregs ad, Biker Sherlock is the "most interesting" skater in the world.

If you've enjoyed the Dos Equis Beer ads in the past, then you may get a kick out of the most recent Dregs ad coming to a Concrete Wave near you.

We recently sat down with Andrew Mercado over a few beers and rapped about his new move to Sector 9 as the Brand Manager of Gullwing Trucks.

For those of you that don't know Andrew, he's an outspoken advocate for keeping "the skate" in longboarding. He grew up on Thrasher Magazine, and he doesn't particularly care for non-skater run companies. He's big on tradition and he probably knows the history of skateboarding better than you. He's been mentored by several industry insiders, including most recently Jerry Madrid, and he's recently branched out as a consultant of several brands, including the new truck company he helped start with Brandon Stewart called Caliber Trucks.

[SS] - Andrew, thanks for taking the time to fill us in on your big upcoming career move... first off, where have you been working?

[Mercado] - I co-founded Caliber Trucks with Brandon Stewart... and worked with Alasco, as well as Madrid, and have been doing my own thing with NoFuture.

[SS] - So do you have to drop all those projects?

[Mercado] - Pretty much, except for a few small projects here and there. I'm on good terms with all of them and have helped find folks to fill my shoes.

[SS] - So where you moving to? and when's the new gig start?
