VIEW IT NOW IN THE SKATE[SLATE] HD THEATER

After much anticipation, the Malibu Invitational Slide Jam footage has been released. The Malibu Invitational Slide Jam was a ground breaking event for downhill skateboarding, On April 11th, Orangatang Wheels organized the event by inviting 30 influential riders from the southern California scene. The closed event provided the perfect situation to capture all of the progressive riding that took place.  After a brief wait that footage is now available to be viewed. Here is a brief note from our good friend Marcus Bandy, the team manager for Orangatang wheels about his thoughts after the event...

It is important to remember that the vast majority of skateboarders out there are not involved with skateboarding contests at all. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that 99% of all the people who ride skateboards do not do any competitive skateboarding whatsoever. For me, the best times I can remember on my board have always been those of ripping-it-up with the crew at a local spot—just vibing off one another and egging each other on to push it bit further. Good times for sure! Qualifications, scorecards, regulations, and the general bureaucracy innate in competition can sometimes take the fun out of skateboarding and make it about . . . well, about who’s the “best”—basically causing it to be a bit divisive (he’s better, and you’re not.). The idea behind the Malibu event was to create inclusion—have an event that breaks away from any "serious" consideration of competition, and turns the attention back to what matters most: Fun with the homies and homettes.  I think we accomplished what we set out to do with the Malibu Jam, and I really feel that this video is a righteous reflection of that accomplishment.  Anyway, thanks to all the skaters who came out to shred, big-ups to all the sponsors that showed their lovey-love, thanks to Jon Jelkin for filming and editing in such a radical and buttery fashion, thanks Mr. Kyle Chin for being my bosom buddy with this event,  big thanks to Adam Colton and Pablo Castro for the superb photo and film work, and thanks Skateslate for sharing this video with the larger community. Most of all, I want to thank Skateboarding for being so fun-as-all-hell.

 I Love Y’all,

 Marcus Bandy
