After Guajataca was over and my undeniable hangover was gone, we had some time to kill before we had to get across the island for our next event, the IDF Lago Curillo DH in Ponce. First order of business was to rent a car:
With a car we could go anywhere we wanted and experience new things. Here are just a few of them:
First, epic sunsets.
We met the “Pelican Whisperer”. This guy had a flock of pelicans trained and responding to him by name.
The time had come to pack our things and hit the road. Puerto Rico really isn’t that big so before we knew it we were in Ponce checking into the motel at the bottom of the track.
Never before had I stayed in a motel quite like this. For the sake of you youngsters out there, let’s just call it a “love motel”. Really the only photo appropriate enough to post is the eerie and ominous outdoor lobby, so here ya go.
Some rooms had stripper poles, others had gynecology stirrups, all with one thing in mind. Only two TV channels played in the fully mirrored rooms: baseball and a collection of B-grade adult films from the 1980s-90s. The rooms also had a bidet (effectively an ass cleaner), and ours had a laser setting I was not aware of until it was too late.
Onto the event!
The hill was gnarly and the pavement was chunder, but it was awesome!
Here we see Mack Wacey in disapproval of a photo, and Byron Essert, James Ware, Kurtis Dawe, and Leo Sartor pointing at literally nothing. But for the sake of the article let’s just imagine it was a UFO.
At the end of the day Kevin Reimer took the win. I managed to race my way into the finals and take 4th, not too shabby! Kyle Wester took second and James Ware third.
So long Puerto Rico, thanks for the hospitality.
