Madrid Skateboards Celebrates 40 Years of Making Skateboards
Even now, few people out there can claim to have been skating 40 years. Madrid Skateboards, lead by Jerry Madrid, are celebrating 40 years of making skateboards in California!
Madrid Skateboards have been hand-made in California for four decades! To mark the occasion, they’ve put together a killer 2016 collection featuring everything from portable cruisers to performance downhill and freeride decks.
A variety of board constructions including Formica, fiberglass, and bamboo provide a wide range of functionality for riders of all styles.
They’re also reissuing some classic Madrid decks including the Elguera Styles pro model and Jerry Madrid’s first shape from 1976.
3 Pro-tips on the history of Madrid Skateboards:
1. 1979 – Madrid made the first downhill-specific board with concave for their Roger Hickey Downhill Pro Model.
2. 1985 – the film Back to the Future featured Marty McFly riding a Valterra Skateboard made by Madrid. Madrid commemorated the film’s 30th anniversary by reissuing a limited run of Marty McFly Valterra skateboards.
3. 1987 – Vans and Madrid teamed up to offer Vans’ first collaboration shoe with a skateboard brand, the Madrid Fly shoe.
