Throwback Thursdays: Santa Barbara 2013
For this Thursday Throwback, I’m showing you some unseen photos from an Arbor Sk8bus trip in the winter of 2013 to Santa Barbara, CA. The trip was the Double Dutch Bus Tour, a skatecacation for some of the Sunset Sliders from SF and the North-westerners on the Sk8bus. We skated a tunnel with sweet transitions, a rough ditch, and some smooth and curvy roads away from the city. Skate and enjoy!
The Double Dutch Bus Tour had a ton of homies. Only a very few will make it into this post.
That full pipe is pretty fun to skate, especially during midday when it’s really hot. It is a bit of a bust though, so don’t stay for long if you find it.
The ditch was alright to skate but kind of rough, so it definitely was more fun if you had soft wheels. It was fun to skate some different terrain. The hills around this area though are so amazing, it’s hard to complain about them. They are also a bit of a bust, so get with the locals to figure out the best strategy for skating them safely and without getting a ticket.
Speaking of road rash, this was the trip where I fell at the shutdown area wearing sweatpants and got really bad road rash on my hip (first error: wearing sweatpants). Thinking it was good to air it out, it was exposed to so much bacteria (Second error: not covering up my rash). I acquired the MRSA infection. Yay! I didn’t die. Take it from me, keep your wounds cleaned and covered. Here is a Santa Gnarbara video of the Double Dutch Bus Tour that shows my road rash briefly. You also get to see Chubbs shoot a board and my board get shot up by a gun I’ll probably never own.
Remember to skate safe and respectfully so that we can continue to skate the hills we love so much. Stay tuned for the next throwback coming in a week. Check the past posts here for some epic travels back in time!
