Kyle Wester Breaks World Speed Record: 89.41 mph / 143.89 kph

Kyle Wester has SMASHED the current world record by going 89.41mph / 143.89kph in Colorado!

Earlier this summer Erik Lundberg reached 81.17mph / 130.63 kph with Redbull at Les Éboulements, Quebec, Canada, on 18 June 2012.

Previously Mischo Erban had the record of 80.74 mph / 129.94 kph for a verified Guinness World Record at Les Éboulements, Quebec, Canada, on 18 June 2012.

On August 29th, 2016, Kyle Wester set out to break the Guinness Fastest Skateboard Speed Downhill record. With the hill conditions just right, Kyle switched out his wheels one last time before making history.

Kyle Wester uses Santa Cruz Skateboards, Road Rider 73mm Shred Mags wheels, Bronson Speed Co. G3 bearings and Mob Super Course Griptape.

Congrats on beating the world record! 89.41mph is crazy speed to go on a skateboard. What is going through your mind when you are going that fast?

Thank you! Dream come true! Once I drop in all my anxieties fade away I become relaxed and focus on keeping my body as still as possible and keeping my tuck tight. You must have complete confidence in your equipment, catastrophic failure is not an option.

How do you do prepare for something like this both mentally?

Mentally, I have conditioned myself over many years of skating at high speeds to remain calm and take challenges that can be thrown my way.

What is it that drives you to attempt something like this?

To be the fastest in the world. I am a pretty competitive guy and I knew it was within my reach.

Do you think you’ll keep pushing the limits and try to break your own record in the future?

Absolutely! This is just the beginning. This weekend is a Top Speed event in Quebec where riders will try and post a ‘World Record’ time and I know this will get everyone going. I’m confident my record will stand for now, but I will continue to push for a higher top speed.

You got married to downhill lady skater Marie ‘Spooky Wooky’ Bougourd (Wester) this year right?

Ha. Yes, we did get married and it’s been great. She definitely helps keep me focused.

Any special thanks?
