2016 Ditch SLAP 10th Anniversary Recap with James Tracey
James Tracey held it down at this years Ditch SLAP X as he has many others. We didn’t have a Skate [Slate] specific crew member covering, and at the close of the event this year James compiled his photos and hit me up with a sick package. As things go in the media game, the season was in swing and we never did find a spot for a print article, not because it wasn’t worth, there was just a lot to cover and then I blew it – Sorry James! Time dragged on and here we are in October, it might as well be 2017 already, so we’re throwing it back to Ditch SLAP as it was and always is a ton of fun.
Shout out to Joe Lehm, Skate School and the ABQ and NM homies who make Ditch SLAP happen. 2016 was Ditch SLAP X, 10 years of beating or getting beat by the Bear. Ten yeas of making it happen for skaters. Congrats!
Ditch Slap X went off beautifully and was probably our best yet! Miles of downhill banked halfpipes garner the best of downhill, street, and slalom skateboarding.
2 days of racing and 2 days of freeride kicked off with the banked slalom the first day (Tuesday). Riders had 3 timed runs, and we used their fastest time overall in the standings. Ryan Ricker took it all, followed closely by Brandon Tissen, and James West.
Wednesday kicked off the Chinese ditch Race. Which is always a spectacle. Carnage was guaranteed and definitely came through! Robin McGuirk came out on top followed by Kaspar Heinrici and Dave Angelus.
The next two days were shuttled freeride days, starting bright and early. Those days are best seen and not described and I captured as much as I could in our Slap video. Good times and good vibes were flowing around!
This year, Bustin Boards had the awesome idea of throwing a #Skateeverythingproject contest and a number of us threw down. Check out the video selections:

All in, Ditch SLAP is some of the most fun you can have. X, 10, ten years of this event and I can only hope for 10 years more.
Spread the word and invite your friends so new people can get exposed to it all. If you like having fun on your skateboard, Ditch SLAP should be on your bucket list!
I’ll cap this off with one last video for Paris Trucks. Hope to see you in at Ditch SLAP 2017!
