Throwback Thursdays: Session in Cebu, Philippines

Last year Skate[Slate] and a bunch of downhill pros went to the Philippines to travel and skate hills with some local friends we made. We went to a couple events, skated some hills, and went to a bunch of waterfalls. Here are some photos from one session we had near Oslob in Cebu, Philippines.

The #chilippines2k15 crew consisted of our driver, The Boss, locals John Gealon, Vince Gealon, Tito Sumicad, Urso and Kara Marbe Urbiztondo, and Gerald Hernandez, kitten-herder Brent “Dubes” Dubendorff, pro longboarders James Kelly, Liam Morgan, Byron Essert, Will Royce, Levi Green, Roger Jones, with Brian “Chubbs” Cortright and I on the photo/video team.

We had a great time, often forgetting our obligations of getting footage to share with everybody else! While we were at the Super Mango Clinic, I tried to shoot our crew, but it was hard to know when they were coming. Somehow, as I was waiting for a skater to slide in a spot I was staking out, Levi Green came around the corner we managed to get a cover shot for Skate Slate issue 24.

I wanted to get some photos of the crew in more unique locations. One day, we went searching up the road from the Mango hill on our rented motorbikes with the van following behind. We couldn’t really find anything too awesome or unique, but what we did find was the last light of the day. I got us to park the bikes and van and hike a section of a hill that was looking particularly good. I ran to my various shooting positions. The riders were hustling to get to the top and drop in and skate for a photo. During this short session I shot a photo that made into last year’s Photo Annual.

The light went away and we called it. Some of us road the van back to our hostel and some road our dirt bikes. I was following Byron and he stopped at a local marketplace. It looked interesting so I stopped and snapped some pictures.

After a long day, the filipino food is something to look forward to. You know you’re going to get your protein with the amount of meat they sell. We convened in an Oslob street market to have dinner and drinks together at a big table.

Big thanks to our local Filipino guides and friends for making the trip easy and fun. And a huge thanks to these brands for making the trip happen!
