Throwback Thursdays: 2013 Malibu Sesh with Max and Calvin

Skate Slate photographer Max Dubler knows the Malibu hills in SoCal really well. He basically moved to LA just so he could skate the Malibu hills daily. While at a hill he is often either skating, shooting photos, and making videos. Three years ago, I stayed at the Skate House and skated some of the local hills. He was in the middle of filming a video of Calvin Staub, who lived in the Skate House at the time. For this Throwback Thursday, I’m sharing a few photos of Max and Calvin Staub in Malibu.

As I remember, I was in L.A. for an Agenda trade show and spent as much extra time in the hills as possible. In 2013, I was all about getting the high angles. I climbed up the hillside on the side of a famous Malibu road getting thorns stuck in my socks, scraping up my legs, and dirt in my shoes. The angle was worth it. Dubler came in hot and pushed out a hefty heelside.

We skated the same hill the next day. Max did some ride along runs with Calvin and then we sessioned a corner until the sun went down.
